CFR Line Group is a New Zealand company with an international presence. They offer supply chain solutions and agency services "Down Under" and in the Pacific to forwarders in the Americas, Asia, and Europe.

Project Scope

CFR Line approached us to assist with a complex relocation project from Neilson Street, Onehunga to Pilkington Park, Panmure. This was a unique project with multiple challenges resulting from the fact that this was an operating site, and the intention was to relocate the racking and keep the company operational. Given that we were entirely relocating them from one 6000 sqm site to their new 6500 sqm site this project was similar in scale to a 12,000 sqm fitout.

Comprehensive Component Allocations:

One of the key challenges in planning the move was understanding how the racking would fit into the new warehouse. The relocation included multiple racking types and several different beam weld components. This required careful planning on behalf of the Shelving Depot team to make sure that all the components could be reused yet without relocating more racking than required. One of our senior project managers, Boaz Godinho, managed the project from concept to completion. It was his job to calculate what racking to relocate and when.

Oversized Components:

Carpet racking is one of the main systems at the CFR Line Group facility. Carpet racking uses 6m deep pallet racking with large sheets of board spanning across the beams. This added a level of complexity for delivering the project safely and minimising the risk for our installers was a key priority. As is standard with any of our projects, the compliance planning was managed by the project manager and monitored by our site team.

Project Staging:

As a relocation project, it was critical that our works didn’t hinder the daily operations at CFR Line Group. To accommodate this, Shelving Depot offered flexible timelines and completed the project in a large number of stages. While this reduced efficiency for the Shelving Depot team, it allowed us to achieve the best result for our client. The staging also required constant communication with the client. To manage this, we provide a dedicated project manager who acted as the single point of accountability. This gave the team at CFR Line Group someone they could rely on to answer any questions regarding the project and ensuring that we were aligned with their timelines throughout the project.

Summary:

As with many of our key projects, the key factor leading to the success of this project lay in providing a single point of accountability. A dedicated project manager allowed us to control the project from start to finish. In this case, the planning, health and safety management, project updates, and arranging equipment were all coordinated through Boaz as the key project manager.
